Fortnite is a groundbreaking game that took the internet by storm. When it first came out, many people were bewildered by the concept of the game. It was something brand new. When I heard about building structures in order to protect yourself, I was fascinated.
No other games have created a concept where you have to build to shield yourself from the bullets of your enemies. I believe this is what made the game so popular.
The game came out on July 25, 2017 with the Battle Royale mode releasing on Sep. 26, 2017. Battle Royale is a PVP (Player versus Player) mode within the game that allows you to queue up from solos, duos, trios, and squads.
You start in the game lobby, and find yourself with other players spawning around you (depends on how fast your device is). You can gain materials, mess around before the game actually starts. When the game does start you are on a blue school bus with a hot air balloon attached to it. The bus drives towards an island with mini locations displayed on your map.
Once you find which spot to look for, you can drop out of the boss and start skydiving towards your destination. As soon as you land, you notice you will have a pickaxe which can be used to mine for materials such as wood, brick and metal (wood being the weakest and metal the strongest). From there, you can build basically anything you want. From a ramp, to a wall, a cone (roof) and floor of any material you have.
I think this is what made the game fun and super creative. Not only can you build, but also edit the structures to change the way they function. Want to build a window on your wall, maybe two? Well you certainly can with the editing system in the game.
Months after Fortnite was released, people began to get better at building, faster at editing. Many players became famous, creating new ways to beat their opponents. One of these people is Richard Tyler Blevins, also known as “Ninja.”
Ninja started playing the game around late 2017, near the time the game came out. As he was playing he streamed the game on Twitch in its early stages. He (and a few others, but mostly him) is known as the “Father of Fortnite” because many who watched his gameplay started playing the game through him. The more the game got popular, the more Ninja got popular.
According to Citatis, Ninja said, “‘Fortnite’ really is just the perfect storm of a game. You have the fact that it’s free to play on almost every platform, and everything about the game is enjoyable.” Epic Games, the big gaming company who created this game, really has outdone themselves. It’s part of my childhood and it’s also where I created a lot of memories.
Taft junior Alex Doroka stated, “Fortnite was one of my all time favorite games. Everything was perfect and it kept me busy. That’s how I met most of my friends today.”
Fortnite is one of the best videogames ever created. From the creativeness to the gameplay, thank you for allowing me to create friendships along the way.
