Languages have been around since the history of forever, whether clanging things together like cavemen or speaking with our mouths we all have our own way of communicating. Each region of the world has their own language(s), with their own accents as well creating a beautiful world of communication.
This article discusses which is the best language in the world. This article is my opinion (obviously) and I think that the best language in the world is Mandarin Chinese.
First, the Chinese language spans over thousands of years of history. According to the Renaissance Translation, the first recorded literature of Chinese was as way back as 1750 BC. More modern records of Mandarin go back to 1250 BC, which has some of the characters that Chinese uses today.
Secondly, Chinese, while contained, still has 1.1 billion speakers in the world according to The Visual Capitalist, making it the second most spoken in the world only followed by English. Most of the speakers of Chinese are from China but Chinese is still spoken in Taiwan, Macau, and the city of Hong Kong.
Thirdly, although it is a more complicated language that’s what makes it more beautiful and impressive to learn. The Chinese language uses “characters” with there being over 50,000 characters in the Chinese language. Luckily you only need to know 8,000 to be extremely fluent in the language.
Chaoyi Li teaches Mandarin here at the Varsity Campus, this is what she had to say on the topic, “China has a very rich culture, each character has its own story and can be used in numerous ways. Which makes it complex but beautiful.”
Andy Vital, a junior who knows Spanish, told his side of the story, “I think that Spanish being quick to learn makes it the best, it’s helped me with travel and my job numerous times.”
Alexis Panousopoulos, who is learning French at Taft, had a more humorous opinion on this topic, “French is a funny language, some things sound like they mean something cool but could actually mean like, ‘I want a chocolate croissant.’ It’s just really funny to me.”
The world is so amazing that we can communicate in so many languages, making everyone’s uniqueness shine through all around the Earth. Though, I still agree with Li saying that Mandarin is the best language in the world with its rich culture, history, and difficulty. Even then there’s still a good question to be asked, why does there need to be a language that is the best?
I think that there is a need for the best language. It shows that even in every competition there’s always one winner, every language is beautiful in its own way but Chinese’s complexity helps build the language to be so beautiful.
