Oct. 22 at Taft’s Varsity Campus Stadium was a very special day for the graduating class of ‘25. Senior Sunrise: a tradition in which students gather to share memories and watch the sunrise at the crack of dawn, took place. Senior sunrise is an event that is meant to unify the class and commemorate all of the seniors in their final year of highschool. An unofficial sunrise has already taken place at the lake Sept. 27, organized by the students.
Seniors got to spend the morning relaxing with their friends, providing Taft seniors the chance to spend time with those who they may not see on a regular basis. This allowed the seniors to connect with one another before separating at the end of graduation.
Andrea Delgado, Taft senior, said, “I really enjoyed this experience because I got to spend time with friends whom I can’t spend time with outside of school. It was a very monumental moment, a good time of freedom.”
Daniel Varol, Taft senior, said, “It was a really good way for the class of 2025 to get together and spend meaningful time together.”
The seniors gathered around with blankets in their PJ’s spending time together before school started. This helped capture memories of their senior year, before they know it they will be off following whatever life has in store for them.
Riley Cholewa, Taft senior, said, “ I liked the senior sunrise a lot, making memories. We had a photo opp even though there wasn’t that good of a sunrise, we were just trying to take cute pictures to remember our senior year.”
Taft seniors thought that it was a good experience, however, they did comment on the lack of amenities provided that could have enhanced the sunrise for them. Had more amenities been provided and tighter security, a more welcoming atmosphere could have been achieved.
“Taft could have provided a couple complimentary items, they didn’t really chauffeur people in so they could have provided more support,” said Varol.
Cholewa said, “They could have made it a more memorable experience, provided us with a banner or hot chocolate. The entryway wasn’t very secure; they kind of let whoever in, making it feel a little unsafe.”
Taft’s Senior Sunrise was an unforgettable celebration for the class of 2025, giving the students memories that will last a lifetime and bonds they will never forget before their final chapter of high school concludes. Taft leaves them with this commemoration before they embark on their journey to the real world.
