In our Taft Yearbook, we have senior quotes put in so that the seniors of that year can give a piece of advice to the underclassmen or just add something comical to give the readers a good laugh.
The teacher of the Yearbook class, Kelly Watson, stated, “I think senior quotes are very important for the yearbook because it’s kind of the last message the seniors are leaving before they go off and graduate.”
Watson also stated, “Especially when you buy the yearbook, it’s something that you can keep forever. It is a tangible expression of how you were at that certain time, so you can look back on it in years to come and say, ‘Oh, that is something I thought was funny, or that’s the impact I wanted to leave for my classmates.’”
A lot of seniors feel that senior quotes are a great way to express themselves or even say something that could potentially relate to the people reading it. All seniors asked said that they just want to send a good message to underclassmen and set them up for success in the future.
Senior Bryan Karajic said, “My senior quote is ‘Let your ambition carry you. -Travis Scott.’ This quote really resonates with me because I’ve always been very ambitious. Travis Scott is one of my favorite artists due to the way he portrays himself.”
Karajic believes that it is very important for the underclassmen to know that they can do anything they put their mind to and not let anyone stop their passions.
“‘Just to feel like this it took a long time – Playboi Carti’ Carti is inspirational and he helps me through my everyday life,” said senior Daris Kadric.
There are so many different perspectives on senior quotes. Karajic and Kadric want to express who their favorite artists are and how they have helped them realize really valuable life lessons.
”My senior quote is ‘Just be happy they hate that—Kanye West.’ I chose this quote because a lot of stuff happens in high school, and the best way to cope with it is by ignoring all the hate and just being happy,” said senior Samantha Ricken.
Ricken wants her last message as a senior to be that you shouldn’t care about what people think and continue to do you, and people are always going to hate, so let them.
“You never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory,” said senior Ginevra Kellogg.
All of these seniors want to show the underclassmen that you should always focus on your goals and never take advantage of anything because it won’t always be there. Stakeholders believe senior quotes are very important because they show all different personalities, and it’s good to have some final words.
