Sudoku is a game about rows, columns, boxes, and the numbers one through nine. It is an intricate game where one mistake can mess up the whole page, which encourages the player to have perseverance, focus, and memorizing. Then when it’s finally finished it gives out a sensation of just feeling good because it’s all solved and looks nice.
Sudoku is a number game which does tend to scare people away but when asked if they found Sudoku fun this is what was said.
Taft junior Mylo McDonald said, “Yeah it’s fun, a good way to pass time and makes me think.”
IBCP teacher Bill Giannetos said, “When I used to play Sudoku I would put forth 100% and found myself fully embraced into the game as well as enjoying all the challenges.”
Sudoku has 3 levels, mainly easy, moderate, and hard. All of these levels have starting numbers but the harder the level the less numbers you start with. So when asked what level Sudoku they like playing and why, this is what they said.
Physics teacher Richard Dethorne said, “Easier because I have no time for the harder ones.”
Taft junior Bella Ornelas said, “I enjoy playing the moderate levels because the hard ones are too challenging and frustrating and the easier ones are too easy.”
Going back to the fact that Sudoku is a game about numbers, it can also help you learn in multiple ways, such as with patterns and helping you understand how numbers fit together. So when asked if Sudoku has helped them like math/numbers more, this is what they said:
McDonald said, “Yeah, I think so, with word problems.”
Dethorne said, “Egh, I see how it could help with noticing specifics, within your rows, columns, and boxes.”
Giannetos said, “Most definitely, it’s like a language the more you practice and repeat them you become more comfortable with them.”
Ornelas said, “Yeah I appreciate the patterns within the math itself.”
I love Sudoku. It helps me pass time, it is so fun for me, I always go through all the levels but I like the harder levels, and lastly it might be the reason why I love math, or maybe just understand it.
