Prom season is one of the most exciting and sometimes overwhelming times of the year for high school students. It’s more than just an event, it’s a milestone event filled with memories, photos, and a chance to dress up and celebrate in style.
At the heart of the excitement is the search for the perfect prom dress, a process that can be just as magical as the night itself. Whether you are dreaming of a classic silhouette, bold colors, or trendy cuts, prom dress shopping has become such an exciting time of the year. While combining fashion, friendship, and chaos.
Senior Claire Dennewitz stated, “Well when I bought my dress I went to Gipper Prom, and I loved it. This place was like a giant prom dress factory. The sweet girls that were helping me also said that they ‘liked the way blue looked on me’ and that’s how I decided on my dress.”
Senior Arleth Teran stated, “When I bought my dress I went with all of my aunts and cousins and this experience fulfilled my dream of buying a quinceanera dress since I wasn’t able to have one. I ended up finding and buying my prom dress within 30 minutes.”
At Taft we have the Taft Alumni Association that provides a whole bunch of great opportunities for students. This year the Taft Alumni Association did a prom dress drive and gave away free prom dresses to anyone who wanted or needed them. This event wasn’t only for prom dresses but it was also for suits and this event was very successful.
Stephanie Mazon, member of the Taft Alumni Association stated, “The Alumni dress event was a success! Many senior students were able to try on and take home free dresses and accessories, all donated by Sew Bridal and members of the community. I was only able to attend during one lunch period, but one memory sticks out to me in particular.”
Mazon continued, “A student shared with me how they were worried about finding and paying for dresses for the variety of events seniors attend – from prom, to graduation, to parties, etc. After trying on a variety of styles, this student landed on one that she felt really confident in. I believe moments like this are the reason why the Prom Dress Event was created, and the Taft Alumni Association appreciates everyone who donated their dresses and time to make the event possible!”
Prom is a once in a lifetime event, and finding the perfect dress is a big part of what makes the night so special. Whether you start shopping months in advance or find the right dress just in time the most important thing is choosing something that makes you feel confident, comfortable, and true to yourself.
Between the glitter, glam, and excitement, remember that prom is about celebrating who you are and the journey you’ve taken to get there. So enjoy the process, make memories with your friends, and get ready for a night you will never forget.
