New school year, new Taft. Students return to the high school front doors after a long, but fun summer. While most things stay the same, a few things have changed. What should we expect this new school year and what do students think of these new changes? Some of the changes are not different from what they were, some are.
The first and most important of these changes is the new school principal this year, Ryan Glowacz. He already made two new changes to the school. One of them is the “Bell-to-Bell” policy which requires students to place their phone on the phone tree as they enter and leave the classroom. And another of the changes is the new classroom, located in the former hallway leading to English classrooms.
“I believe that the new principal will be similar to the previous one,” said sophomore student Simon. Regarding the schedule, Simon also mentioned that, “I enjoy my current schedule and classes, and also I’m currently taking Tennis as an extracurricular activity.”
On the other hand, students also believe that the new policy could be controversial. “If we are allowed to have five minutes for our passing periods, we should be able to have phones [at the end of class] in order to find directions for the next class,” said Taft junior Mia Romo.
Romo believes that the new Principal, “Is doing good and will do a good job with treating everybody equally and making sure that rules are followed.” Romo also believes that, “Glowacz will perform similarly to Grishaber.”
She later stated, “I enjoy my current classes and schedule.” She also said, “I’m currently in a robotics club three years in a row and I will try to join Animal League and Roller Skating clubs.”
These are some of the new changes at Taft. We will see how these new changes will affect Taft and its student body.
