Netflix is a top American streaming service with over 283 million subscribers. The service distributes TV shows and movies from numerous genres and is available internationally in many languages.
Over the years, Netflix has grown dramatically. With over 3,600 movies and 1,800 TV shows, it’s been a hit among all audiences. Some of Netflix’s most successful shows include “Wednesday,” “Stranger Things,” “DAHMER: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” or “Bridgerton.” This begs the question: What is the best Netflix show?
Of course, there are many mixed opinions. English teacher Emmett Phillips thinks the 2019 sketch comedy, “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson,” is the best. “It’s these really weird scenarios with these really weird actors participating in them,” Phillips commented.
“There’s a lot of great Netflix shows out there, but in my opinion it makes it the best because I can just throw it on and just like, die of laughter at any scene or any skit,” Phillips said when asked what makes it the best.
Senior Dominik Turbak thinks that the best Netflix show is the 2010 drama, “The Walking Dead.” “‘The Walking Dead’ is a post-apocalyptic zombie show where this group of survivors survive for a long time,” said Turbak when asked what the show is about.
There are many things that can make a show the best, for Turbak, “The plot and the suspense throughout the show,” is what did it for him. “[This show] is a good show for everyone,” he added.
Senior Rosalia Locascio said the best Netflix show is “13 Reasons Why” (2017-2020).
“Hannah Baker… she kills herself… and she leaves a set of tapes that everyone…listened to.” She continued, “Clay… falls in love with her ghost and like, starts having delusions.”
She added, “It’s a little scary, but it’s a really good representation of how suicide really affects teenagers.”
“As a person who struggles with my mental health as well sometimes, I definitely feel heard and seen in this show,” she went on to describe her streaming experience, “I watched it, I got hooked, and I finished the entire four seasons in like literally a week.”
Locasico recommended this show. She said, “This show really attracts, I would say, a lot of teenagers, and even young adults…because of the nature of the show, the content, and the setting; it takes place in a high school.”
Senior Lorelei Monk said the best Netflix show is “Supernatural” (2005-2020). “It’s about these two guys that hunt monsters and myths…it’s pretty interesting, I love it.” Monk continued to describe the action-fantasy series, “They make a lot of jokes, and at the same time, make it really intense.”
One of our favorite Netflix shows is a 2017 British comedy-drama, “The End of the F***ing World.” The show introduces two teenagers, James and Alyssa. Both never fitting in with society, venture on a roadtrip to escape their home lives. This journey would change them forever, growing close together while committing crimes and fighting to survive.
This show is the best Netflix show because of its unique style and creative storytelling. Though a comedy, occasionally a dark-comedy, it touches on sensitive topics. It can even be violent in select scenes. But one of our favorite aspects about this show is its transition from Season One to Season Two.
Season One is shown from the perspective of the two teenagers. In Season Two, a new character is introduced. We learn about who she is, and more importantly, how the two rebellious teens have unknowingly sent her life into a spiral.
