The Boys Basketball Senior Night was a success. The boys took a dub against MCC High School from Morton Grove. Our starting 5 this game were seniors Martin Dempsey, Erik Ramirez, Connor Cantafio, Yassine Dahmaz, and Diego Flores. They started the game off strong and they ended the first half up by 8 points.
Ramirez, Flores, Dahmaz, Dempsey, and Cantafio were asked how their senior season is going and what they think about it. All the boys said it was sad seeing the season coming to an end because they all have built bonds with each other and all became brothers.
“I feel great about my senior season, we started slow but now we are picking it up a little bit. It’s really sad that it is my last year at Taft. Hopefully I can leave a very good impression and have a great impact on the upcoming varsity players,” said Ramirez.
All these boys just want their leadership to shine through this season and make sure that they prepare these upcoming varsity players and show them that they can do it too.
“My senior year is going well. We have started off slow but we’ve been able to pick it up and it’s been a fun season, and I just love being in the gym with all my friends and working hard throughout the season,” said Cantafio.
The Basketball team felt all good things the day of Senior Night. These boys were super excited to be celebrated for their hard work and dedication. Even though their season ending is a bittersweet thing they can’t wait to end off the season with a bang.
“This basketball season there has been a lot of adversity faced, as well as a lot of challenges. But we’ve fought hard to be better as a team by communicating and just playing as a whole instead of 5 separate individuals on the team,” said Flores.
“I feel good about my senior season so far, it was rough at the beginning but we’re improving every day and each game is getting more and more competitive,” said Dempsey.
Dempsey stated, “This season has definitely made me more mature because now being an upperclassmen I have to be more of a role model for the underclassmen in the program and the younger kids on the varsity team.”
After the seniors reflected about their season, junior Nathan Serrano on the Varsity Basketball team reflected on how he feels about the seniors leaving and how his leadership skills will continue throughout the rest of this season and the remainder of his high school career.
Serrano stated, “How I feel about the seniors leaving is pretty sad cause I built good relationships with them, and me about to be a senior is pretty sad too because high school ball is really fun.”
Overall, the seniors on this team have put a lot of hard work in and have had a great season. They were all very happy to be celebrated on their senior night and they cannot wait to see what the future holds for them and this program that they have led.
