There are so many different sports to kick off the spring season. It is the beginning of warm weather and it’s the time to be outside. All spring sports tryouts are happening the week of March 3 from soccer, track, and lacross to baseball, softball, and rugby.
All the coaches of our spring sports have put their schedules in max preps, and their rosters. All spring sports have multiple competitive games this season. Coaches of baseball and rugby did a reflection about their upcoming seasons and had lots of good things to say.
Brian Hayes, Varsity Rugby coach said, “Practice! We have several games at the beginning that are out of conference to prepare for our conference schedule. Some of these are teams we could see in the playoffs so hopefully it sets up well to be successful this season.”
Michael Raher, Varsity Baseball coach, said, “In preparation for the upcoming season, the Varsity coaching staff is really focusing on sticking to the basics and emphasizing skill fundamentals. We are engaging the players with a high volume of repetitions for skill development and refinement and challenging the players with drills that require situational awareness.”
Having a core group of returners can help any team succeed. Returners already have experience of being on higher level teams and they can lead their team both mentally and physically throughout their season.
Raher continued, “We have a core group of returning players that have acquired experience on the field already and have been with the program for multiple years. The thing that ultimately separates good to great teams is consistency: being able to execute at a high level and mitigate unforced mistakes.”
The players this season are very dedicated and ready to work hard to lead their teams to success. Jaylene Mercado, Varsity Girls Soccer player, said, “The way that I feel about my upcoming season is very optimistic, and I think we are going to go pretty hard this season and have a positive mindset throughout the season even after losses.”
In conclusion, all sports are ready to have great seasons and make far runs in state playoffs. Spring sports offer athletes and fans an exciting season filled with competition, growth, and camaraderie. Whether it’s on the track, field, or court these sports provide opportunities for teamwork, and skill development.
