Of all events held at Taft, one of the most highly anticipated is the Senior Prom. Seniors and guests want to have the best experience possible. The Senior Prom will be held on June 6, 2025, but you can’t have a Prom without a theme! Prom themes are in the works, and it’s the Taft Senior Prom Committee to thank!
The Taft Senior Prom Committee (SPC) held its first meeting on Sep. 23 to discuss possible themes for the event. They came together to brainstorm ideas and were separated into groups to create vision boards for their assigned theme. They even searched through school event newspapers for ideas for the big day.
SPC Supervisor Rachel Miner gave insight on the process of setting up Prom. “They’ll boil it down to three [themes], and put it out to the whole senior class to vote. Then, we really finalize what the feel/picture is, and give it to the event coordinator. The coordinator then recreates what they have been able to envision,” she explained.
“The purpose is for them to understand what it takes to actually plan a big event,” Miner stated. She explained how making memories between the Committee was important to her, and about implementing that aspect into the Senior Prom.
“If we can start collecting pictures so we can make it more like a memory… Just personalized for [the senior class]. We have these big screens behind the DJ, even if it’s photos from elementary school, just to bring back the memory of their schooling,” Miner described.
Two seniors joining the SPC, Nena Seda and Lacie Masella, are happy to be contributing to the dance. The two talked about why they joined the Committee in the first place.
“I joined this year because I really want something that everyone can enjoy. I want to be a part of something with great output and that’s supposed to be super memorable for everyone,” Seda said. Masella agreed, “I don’t want to show up to Prom and not be something I didn’t imagine. I don’t want it to be like Homecoming.”
The two students are excited to be looking into a masquerade ball theme. “I want to contribute to the decorations and make sure all the tables look good,” Masella said. “I feel like something we could do with that theme is have a booth where people can make their own masks,” Seda added.
The Committee hopes to start fundraising for the Prom to make this year’s event an unforgettable experience. “We are going to try to start fundraising. I’m trying to make it so [the Committee] have memories together,” Miner clarified. They want to set up face painting booths at Taft sporting events, mainly football and basketball at the moment.
Some themes to look out for currently are Candy Land and the Golden 20’s. Whatever the theme may be, the Taft Senior Prom Committee is working hard to make sure the once-in-a-lifetime occasion is something that will be spectacular for the Class of 2025.
