As a senior this year I feel it should be allowed for at least seniors to get this privilege of open campus since many seniors have cars or friends who have cars. I understand the reasons for no longer allowing open campus but I feel we should be given a second chance to prove that we can be worthy of this privilege.
Many can agree on this. Eliana Guajardo, a Taft senior, said, “We should have off-campus lunch because most of the seniors have cars so they can drive to any other restaurants and I feel we are mature and responsible enough to be trusted.”
I feel bringing back 8th period lunches for seniors where seniors were allowed to leave can be beneficial to the school attendance and just how we as students function on a daily basis, or allowing for seniors in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th lunches to be able to leave. Some students have different opinions on how we should have open campus lunch.
Rayane Belmiloud, a Taft senior, said, “I’d pick 8th because it’s less stress to be back before the next period.” This senior had expressed the idea that 8th is better because that way there is a guarantee that our friends would be with us and that we wouldn’t have to worry about being back in time for the following period.
While Guajardo said, “I feel like either or would be fine but I think maybe it would be best just to have off-campus lunch because a lot of kids get hungry throughout the day and they’re gonna end up wanting to leave to go and get food so it just makes more sense for it to be off-campus lunch but if students had the option to just not have an eighth period that should be an option too.”
Guajardo here is giving a different side to what could be better in terms of 8th off or whatever lunch period we are given. There are many different perspectives that weigh in on this topic but in the end I feel that we should be given an opportunity to prove that we can use this kind of freedom properly.
