This June, seniors will celebrate their triumph. Although this is the end of a chapter, a new one follows. On graduation day, they’ll wait for their names to be announced, smile to the cheers from their family, and shake hands with Principal Ryan Glowacz as he hands them their diploma.
Some seniors will have or already have experience in the real world. For example, some seniors work or drive cars. However, this doesn’t take away from the fact that they are still learning and figuring out who they want to be in the world.
Taft senior Atlas Diaz said, “I plan on going to college and then trying to pursue a Human Resources career path. Also trying to improve my mental and wellbeing.”
Taft senior Kathy Huynh stated, “I plan on going to college and finding internships. In general, just spending more time with family and going on more trips with them.”
Some seniors are experiencing “senioritis,” feeling unmotivated to do work or go to school. They want to be done with high school and move on to newer heights. Nonetheless, they’ve made countless memories and look forward to attending college.
When asked to compare high school to elementary school, Huynh mentioned, “Compared to elementary school I have definitely met a lot more people. In each class I’m with different groups of people. I do miss elementary school because I felt closer to my classmates since we all would have the same classes together.”
A majority of them will be turning 20 while in college and working a part time job to pay for student loans. Being in your 20s means discovering new things and building the life you want. It can be a period of independence and growth.
Taft senior Sarai Menez said, “In my 20s, I hope to have a stable job and travel more.”
Overall, many seniors have mixed emotions about post secondary life and reaching their 20s. However, it can be said that they’re excited and looking forward to the future. In 10 years it will be nice to see how your friends from high school are doing and what they’ve been up to.
