Baseball meets spring break! While most students spend spring break lounging at their house or at the beach, the Varsity Baseball team packed their bags, grabbed their gear, and jumped on the road to Tennessee. They went from practicing six days a week and preparing for their trip to finally playing in the national tournament.
Our Eagles went 1-2. They fought hard all throughout the trip and made so many great memories with their teammates, from team dinners and fun nights out, to playing and backing each other up on the field.
Taft junior and Varsity Baseball player Camila Rodriguez said, “It was a great experience, we went to see Vanderbilt University, and we got to go on their baseball field. We played the majority of the time out there and got to experience great competition. Overall, it was a good experience and with the free time we had we made the best out of it.”
All the players on the team had nothing but great things to say about the trip. This trip helped the team grow and bond together even when they took some losses. Playing against out of state teams challenged the players in all new ways. This experience not only strengthened their skills on the field but also off the field.
Taft senior Varsity Baseball player Daniel Marr said, “The trip was a lot of fun. All the days that we were there the weather was perfect and all the fields were really well maintained. We were able to go out to eat as a team which helped team bonding and we also hung out together while at the hotel. The competition was also good.”
Taft Varsity Baseball Coach Michael Raher said, “Tennessee was great but a piece of feedback that I have is, if we can establish that mindset of doing the little things well consistently—fundamental execution both offensively and defensively—we are going to compete at a high level this spring.”
Ultimately, this trip was more than just a chance for the team to compete, but it was also a chance for the team to bond and make new memories. These boys had a great turnout in Tennessee and as the season continues these boys will continue to fight hard and have a great rest of their season.
