On Friday, Oct.20th, the video game, Spider-Man 2 was released. Many fans like myself have been waiting for the game for a few years but have played the previous games such as Spider-Man and Spider-Man Miles Morales.

Insomniac Games has been hinting at the second game in a post credit scene in both previous games by having Harry Osborn, Peter Parker’s best friend, in a tank with a black goo substance surrounding his body as Curt Connors, a.k.a. The Lizard looks at Harry’s x-rays and vitals.

Fans were excited to see the hint of Venom joining the game’s universe and the appearance of Lizard. Many theories were formed that the two would team up or that this would be the start of the ‘black suit’ for Spider-Man. A game trailer was later released and it confirmed the arrival of Venom.

Fans of the franchise believe that this game will become Game of the Year. Ahmed Aiyasiry, Taft senior, stated, “The game is a 9/10, they definitely improved on a lot since the last two games and the first mission with Sandman was the perfect way to start the game.”

Though I agree this will be Game of the Year, the game had barely anything to do with Venom but more of another villain, Kraven. The actual storyline was captivating and exciting but it felt like I was waiting on Venom throughout the whole game and he didn’t make an appearance until the end of the game.

However, Camren Banks, Taft senior, stated, “It has a lot of competition for Game of the Year because of Mortal Kombat 1, Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros Wonder and Hogwarts Legacy.”

Even though this game has lots of potential, I didn’t like that there were many off-screen deaths with major characters in the Sinister Six such as Rhino, Vulture, Shocker, and Electro. For villains with such big roles in the previous games, I would have enjoyed at least seeing the battle versus finding out on the whim.

Though Venom was lacking, the storyline was entertaining by having Kraven be a major villain and having side stories with Peter dealing with Aunt May’s house and Miles applying to colleges while also being in love with Hailey Cooper.

I absolutely loved that Insomniac decided to add more of Hailey into this game and even have fans play as her and learn more about her personality and learn about the deaf community. It was interesting to play her and have the game be pitch quiet to empathize what being deaf is like.

I  also loved the symbiote powers given to Peter and being able to use them throughout the game. I also loved the size of the map and being able to explore more and fast travel to specific locations versus using a train like in the previous games.

Another thing I enjoyed was being able to play multiple points of views such as Peter, Miles, Hailey, MJ, and even Venom! Out of both Spider-men, Miles is my favorite character to play because of his electric powers and his personality overall.

Insomniac did confirm a third game in the end credits by having Norman Osborn and Doc Ock hint at teaming up. The end credits also revealed it will be the final game in the franchise as Doc Ock references ‘the last chapter’. I am sad that this franchise is coming to end but I will definitely play the final game.
